Want to request a book or movie, but the catalog won’t let you? It could be a Sonoma Valley item. Currently you can’t request any items from Sonoma Valley Library through our online catalog system.

The Sonoma Valley Regional Library has relocated to a temporary facility (Burlingame Hall, 252 W. Spain St. Sonoma, CA 95476) during the remodeling of its building at West Napa Street.

During the remodel, the majority of the Sonoma Valley library collections is in storage and unavailable. These are noted in the online catalog with a status of Storage.

Since the collection in the temporary facility is quite limited, holds cannot be placed on them. This ensures there are adequate materials for the Sonoma community to browse. Patrons who wish to see something owned by the Sonoma Valley branch, which is not in storage, will have to go to Burlingame Hall to get it.

The SuperSearch system will not accept hold requests for any items we own, even if our only copy is a non-requestable Sonoma Valley item. If you’re not able to request an item through our catalog system or through SuperSearch, you can still fill out an Interlibrary Loan request at any Sonoma County Library branch.

Once the Sonoma Valley library reopens on West Napa Street, all materials will revert to the normal requestable status. Reopening is scheduled for spring 2012. Thank you for your understanding.

The September 2011 Regular Library Commission meeting which was to be held at the Rincon Valley Regional Library on September 7 at 6:30 p.m. has been rescheduled to September 21, 6:30 p.m. at the same location.

The Sonoma Valley Regional Library is scheduled to open in its temporary quarters at 252 West Spain Street on Friday, September 9 at 10 a.m.

Any items that were due back at Sonoma Valley Library during the closure can be returned, without late fines, when the temporary library opens.

The Library has negotiated a new contract for a package of online resources for you to use through our website. Not only does this new package bring us a significant cost savings, it also brings you more to read and research online — all free with your library card.

The date has been set for Sonoma Valley Library to open in its new temporary location at Burlingame Hall. The temporary location will open Tuesday, August 23. Update 8/12/2011: The temporary location will open on a date to be announced.

Have you seen Lobo in your library? The Sonoma State University mascot is on tour in July to visit libraries around the county during the 2011 Summer Reading Club. Tour dates are listed on the SSU Seawolves website.

Service at the Sonoma Valley Regional Library will be moved to a temporary location for several months while the library building is remodeled.

Last hold request delivery at Sonoma Valley Library: July 5. Items can still be requested for delivery to Sonoma Valley Library. Any item sent after July 5 will be available for pickup at the temporary location when it opens.

Items checked out by July 16: Not due until the temporary location opens.

Item returns after July 16: Return drop box will be available after July 16 at the temporary location. Return box will be available at the Napa Street location until July 29 and will move to the temporary location starting July 30.

Thanks to a special statewide program this year, the Library has received free access to BookFLIX from Scholastic. With BookFLIX, kids can read a book right on the computer by flipping the pages on the screen. Each book is paired with a storybook video to watch.
