If you are reading a good book, the characters will come alive to the reader.  Many times a character will stay with you long after you close the book.  We asked Sonoma County Librarians who their favorite literary character is and this is what they said.

Tiffany, Sebastopol Branch:
Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird
Death from The Book Thief

Julie, Rincon Valley Branch:
Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind

Kate, Petaluma Branch:
Meg Murry in A Wrinkle in Time

Kim, Central Branch:
Jenny Linsky from Jenny and the Cat Club

Rachel, Central Branch:
Katsa from Graceling

Laura, Windsor Branch:

Jennifer, Rincon Valley Branch:

My favorite characters are Scarlett's mother from Gone With the Wind and Pollyanna. Scarlett's mother is a very strong woman, but not as mean as Scarlett. She is as kind as Melanie but very strong, running the household on her own and nursing all the folks on the whole plantation. I really appreciate Pollyanna's way of trying to find something good in any situation. If you read the book I think that you will find she is not as sappy as the term has come to imply. She just knows that in any situation there is something to be grateful for. Things are tough here at the library, but I have a job that I love and that brings me a paycheck.
