We were Liars by E. Lockhart
Review by Tiffany, Librarian, Sebastopol Regional Library & Rincon Valley Library

A group of three cousins and one friend: this family is the wealthy, privileged Sinclairs.  They spend their summers on a private island and become very close every year.  Cady arrives on the island the year she is 17, with medical problems lingering from the summer two years ago.  She knows something happened the “summer of 15”.  No one is telling her what happened, everyone is lying to her.  What happened the summer of 15?  Why won’t anyone tell her?

Why I picked it up:  This book is getting a lot of buzz from the media so I was curious about it.  I have read other books by Lockhart and enjoyed them, so I wanted to give it a try.

Why I finished it:  You can’t start this book without finishing it.  You need to know what happened to Cady.

I’d recommend it to:  Anyone looking for a good fast summer read.

I love the dust jacket for this book.  The last paragraph says “Read it.  And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.”

Sounds good I like anything with an element of mystery

Seems very interesting

Sounds like something I would like. I'll look it up. Thanks for the review!
