The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Review by Sierra, 7th grade, Sebastopol
This is a book about modernized Greek myths. For example, in the story Olympus is in the Empire State Building and the underworld is under Los Angeles. Demigods (the children of gods and humans) must go on an exciting quest. The three main characters: Percy, Annabeth and Grover go on an adventure together to save Olympus. For Percy, however, something more might be at stake.
I love the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I would recommend these books, especially for anyone who is interested in Greek gods, goddesses, and myths. If you like a good adventure story, read Percy Jackson and the Olympians Book One: The Lightning Thief. It had me turning the pages and laughing a lot.

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
Review by Tiffany, Librarian, Rincon Valley
Auden just graduated from high school at the top of her class. She spent her whole childhood trying to impress her parents with her grades and maturity, so she never did any of the things her peers did such as sleepovers, riding a bike or bowling. Instead, she spent most nights alone, drinking coffee and driving around town. At the beginning of her summer vacation, on a whim, she decided to go stay with her father, stepmother and their new baby girl.
The first couple of weeks or so are spent like those in her hometown, drinking coffee and driving alone through town. Things begin to change when she meets Eli, who also spends his nights alone, fighting insomnia. Soon she starts to discover all of the things she missed growing up and, with help from Eli, decides to re-live her childhood. However, things begin to change when emotions from her parent’s divorce come to the surface again.
Dessen is known for great character development and this book does not disappoint. You get so wrapped up in Auden and all the minor characters that the book flows effortlessly. You don’t want to miss this newest Sarah Dessen book!
