Complete Description:
MEET THE AUTHOR – NANCY WILSON

Petaluma resident Nancy R. Wilson will be the featured speaker at a Meet the Author program to be presented at the Petaluma Library on Saturday, December 8, at 2:00. Nancy is the author of the recently-published “Queen of Speed: The Racy Life of Mary Petre”.
“Queen of Speed” is Nancy’s first book. It is a biography of Mary Petre Bruce, an early aviator, racecar drive and speedboat enthusiast who set many world records on the land, sea and in the air during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Nancy says that she was fascinated from the moment she chanced upon Mary Petre Bruce’s obituary back in 1990. The opening paragraph of the obituary read, “Mary Bruce, a daredevil pilot who broke land, air and speed records and was once arrested for flying circles around the Empire State Building, has died.” Several years later Nancy began researching the life of the extraordinary Mary Petre Bruce whose craving for speed and fame drove her to set records on land, sea and air as she raced through the twentieth century. Mary was a fearless and determined competitor who set records and won prizes for speed and endurance in planes, automobiles and speedboats. At least one of her records still stands. Nancy says that it took her about fifteen years to research and write the life of the amazing Mary Petre Bruce.
Nancy Wilson is involved in many Petaluma community activities and she is one of the wonderful docents in the Library’s Petaluma History Room.
The Meet the Author program featuring Nancy Wilson will be held in the Helen Putnam Community Room of the Petaluma Regional Library. The public is invited to attend the program. There is no charge for admission. Copies of “Queen of Speed” will be available for sale and a book-signing will follow Nancy’s remarks.
