Public Comment: None.
Announcements: Nancy expressed gratitude to the Sebastopol Regional Library for their presence at the Bibliophoria Street Printing Festival on June 28, 2014. Sebastopol LAB has two vacancies, and a third vacancy for a youth member. Phil Brownell will be retiring from the LAB at the end of the August meeting for a fourth vacancy.
Review of annual LAB budget expenses for 2013/2014: The expenditures for the community forum were around $180 and the outreach through newspaper ads was around $300. Mathew Rose to provide itemized reports for the next meeting.
Commissioner Report: Ms. Whistler reported the next Library Commission meeting will take place on July 7, 2014. The Commission will discuss using Santa Rosa City Hall as a location for the meetings and the possible ballot measure to increase library funding. Volunteers for the all LAB meeting in September may be sought.
Director Report: Mr. Lear discussed the new Commission and training of the new Commissioners, being scheduled for August. Mr. Lear has been meeting with government entities and citizens groups with regard to library finances, specifically that library expenditures exceed revenues. The sales tax ballot measure was discussed, as were other options, such as individuals donating to the library. Job descriptions are in the process of being updated for all library personnel, with possible compensation studies to be conducted in the future. Mr. Lear was prompted to discuss that his previous library system, under his directorship, was awarded a national award for staff development.
Branch Manager Report: Mr. Rose reported: Staff changes may be noticed at the library. Lisa Sigler transferred to the Windsor Library and reduced her hours to spend more time with grandchildren. Carrie King was hired as a 20 hour Library Technician III to fill that vacancy. Pam Segal announced her retirement set for July 26, 2014. Tiffany Bronzan, through the early retirements prompted by the Great Recession, has always been on loan from the Rincon Valley Library. The Rincon Valley Library has claimed back some of her hours. She will only be at the Sebastopol Regional Library about 27 hours a week, altering storytimes and children’s programing. The library is updating its website, a sneak peak can be viewed at sonomalibrary.org and the site goes full launch on July 8, 2014. The prints from the Bibliophoria Street Printing Festival are on display in the library forum room for the month of July and the Sebastopol Library Art Show will take place in August.
Friends of Sebastopol Library Report: Sue Fujita provided a written report read by Ms. Shiff: The next board meeting, to which you all are invited, will take place on July 15, 2014, at Sebastopol City Hall. Sorters are being sought. If you are interested in sorting donations, please contact Sue. Thoughts on storing donations before booksales are being solicited – storage at the library is not large enough and the volunteers who transfer books around town and back again for the sales may not be willing to do so forever. The next booksale will take place September 10-13, 2014.
Amigos Report: Mr. Mitchel reported: The next meeting will take place on July 22, 2014, at the Central Library at 6:30 pm.
LANTERN Report: Mr. Rose reported: A community forum will be held on July 9, 2014, at 5:30 pm to gather ideas what the community wants in a new library and to collect donations. LANTERN was awarded a $5000 grant to establish a website, host community forums, and further establish itself for fundraising to build a new library in Sebastopol. Several new Directors were elected, including Lily Borgeson. A donation from former Library employee Ann Stroberger was received.
Agenda Items for Next Meeting: Review of LAB expenses for 2013/2014, Discuss possible projects for LAB, Alter meeting frequency to every other month, Review and amend by-laws, Officer elections
