- Internet Public Library
- Real human librarians contributed these sites and classed them under human language subject terms.
InfoMine- Selected by librarians at the University of California. This directory has an academic focus and includes resources marked $ that are subscription-only. To get only the sites that are freely available outside the University, use Advanced search and select Free under "Resource access."
Open Directory (DMOZ)- The Open Directory project is created by volunteers.
Yahoo- Web portal with sections such as Autos, Finance, Jobs, News.

Meta Search Engines
These services piggyback on other search engines to display both web results and ads from the major search engines like Google and Yahoo. Look carefully at the results for "Ads" or "Sponsored" labels in order to tell the ad links apart from the web result links.

- Google's Index to Usenet (Google Groups)
- Index to Usenet newsgroups. Good tool if you want to find a specific piece of information you think has been discussed in a newsgroup.

Google Blog Search- Search for a term across widely-read blogs as well as personal blogs.
IceRocket- Up-to-the-minute search of blogs worldwide. Limit by date range and language. Includes blogs worldwide, so select the English option under "Sort by language" to focus on blog posts in English.
