Teen Volunteer
Importance of Position: Assists library by keeping shelves in good order, making it easier for staff and patrons to find and use materials and helps with children during the Summer Reading Program.
Qualifications:
- Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order
- Ability to comprehend instructions and follow through
- Aptitude for detail and neatness
- Willingness to become familiar with the Dewey Decimal System
- Willingness and ability to work with children
- Must be at least 12 years of age
Responsible To: Children’s Librarians
Responsibilities:
1. Attend an orientation to the library and job-specific training.
2. Return books or other materials to appropriate locations on shelves.
3. Help with setup and clean up of library programs.
4. Help with children’s craft programs.
5. Calling when you will be gone.
Training Provided: Orientation to the library as well as specific training on book shelving (and the Dewey Decimal System optional for young teens).

Time Commitment: Minimum weekly 2-hour shift

- Failure to carry out assigned responsibilities
- Breach of confidentiality
