Read With Us This Summer!

Sonoma County Library’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge is a celebration of learning — your way. Read something that sparks your curiosity for at least 20 minutes a day.

The 2022 Summer Reading Challenge runs from June 6 to August 13. Log the minutes you read through Beanstack (and the Beanstack Tracker App), or record them on paper logs. Signup online or visit your local library.

Read, Learn, and Win Prizes!

Expand your knowledge by reading and attending FREE educational events offered both in-person or virtually. Everyone is welcome!

All events are free and you don't need a library card to attend. Check out the full calendar of events, with locations, dates and times, and registration info here:

  • Read all summer! Reading is fun and you can win prizes. Read wherever, however, whatever, you enjoy, to foster a lifetime of learning.
  • Record your minutes to be eligible for participation and raffle prizes.*
  • Read 16 hours to complete the program. Reading time must be recorded on the Beanstack site (or turned in by paper log) by August 13, 2022.

How To Play – Online

  1. Register: Sign up for (or log in to) your free Beanstack account and register for the 2022 Summer Reading program.
  2. Enjoy reading in your favorite format—books, graphic novels, eBooks, audiobooks, or eAudiobooks.
  3. Track Your Reading: Each time you read 20 minutes, track the time in your online log. Earn virtual badges in Beanstack for every hour you read.
  4. Earn Prizes: Read 8 hours to earn a FREE BOOK! Read 16 hours to COMPLETE the challenge, and earn a SECOND FREE BOOK!* The more you read, the more chances you have to win raffle prizes.
  5. Keep Reading! The more you read, the more badges you will receive. You can record reading minutes all summer! Reading 16 hours is easier than you think—it’s just 20 minutes a day for 7 weeks.

How To Play – Paper

  1. Register: Download a paper reading log, or pick one up at your nearest Sonoma County Library location.
  2. Enjoy reading in your favorite format—books, graphic novels, eBooks, audiobooks, or eAudiobooks.
  3. Track Your Reading: Each time you read 20 minutes, check a box on your paper log.
  4. Earn Prizes: Read 8 hours to earn a FREE BOOK! Read 16 hours to COMPLETE the challenge, and earn a SECOND FREE BOOK!* The more you read, the more chances you have to win raffle prizes.
  5. Turn in paper reading logs at your local library branch, or take a picture and email it to summerreading@sonomalibrary.org.**
  6. Keep Reading! Record your reading minutes all summer long! Reading 16 hours is easier than you think—it’s just 20 minutes a day for 7 weeks.

* Prizes available to all Sonoma County residents, while supplies last. Prizes available for pick up until September 30, 2022.

Help your Children Succeed in School

Encourage your children to maintain their reading skills by participating in our Summer Reading Program and trying these tips:

  • Set realistic summer reading goals.
  • Read together to connect with your child and celebrate the joy of learning.
  • Sneak books into all fun activities you do.
  • Model for your child by taking the time to read yourself!
  • Show your child that reading is a priority and read 20 minutes every day.

Summer Reading Scavenger Hunt 2022

Explore with the Sonoma County Library’s family friendly community scavenger hunt using the GooseChase App or paper log starting June 6!

Second annual Teen Film Festival

All Sonoma County teens ages 12 to 19 are invited to compete. Take some time over the summer break to shoot and edit your own 6-minute masterpiece. A jury will review all submitted entries and select films screened at the festival. Prizes will be awarded for the top films.

Virtual Open Mic

This is an all-ages community-submitted open-mic program. Submit a short video (under 5 minutes long) of you performing a song, piece of poetry, or spoken word piece.
