Local History Archives
The strengths of the collection include the papers and records of individuals, families, and organizations from throughout Sonoma County. These collections can be used to understand the political, economic, social, and cultural history of the county. Learn more
County of Sonoma and City of Santa Rosa Archives
Sonoma County Library is the official repository for many records of the County of Sonoma. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has designated these records as archival at the recommendation of the Sonoma County Historical Records Commission.
These are records created by County of Sonoma departments, offices, commissions, and their employees, and include the historical records of the Board of Supervisors, Permit and Resource Management Department, Sonoma County Courts, and more. The types of records include meeting minutes, actions, project files, reports, photographs, and maps.
The library also maintains some historically significant records from the City of Santa Rosa.
Please note: Certain records series may have legal restrictions for public access.

To request materials, contact us include the following in the body of your message:
- Your name (and department, if requesting from a department of County of Sonoma)
- Preferred date of arrival
- Collection title and/or collection number
- Box and/or volume number(s) (or include a description of item if box/volume number is not available)
